Dennis H. Ruck
President & CEO
Dennis Ruck is President & CEO of designDATA. He is responsible for creating the company’s overarching strategic vision and its day-to-day operating framework.
Dennis has more 40 years of IT experience, beginning his notable career as a data processing manager for the National Savings and Trust Company. In this role, he worked to develop and deploy complete online banking systems with integrated ATM and ACH batch filing – two pioneering solutions at the time.
Dennis founded designDATA in 1979 to deliver turnkey membership management solutions for association and non-profit clientele. In 1988, he decided to grow the company even further, spearheading the acquisition of a large engineering firm called Data Consultant Services (DCS). Through this acquisition, designDATA was able to offer a more expansive single vendor solution by providing hardware maintenance and engineering services to membership management software clients.
Throughout the 1980's, Dennis’ industry xpertise and reputation helped designDATA win prestigious engineering accounts such as the Executive Office of the President, Bell Atlantic (now Verizon), Brigham and Women's Hospital, Department of Labor, Department of Justice, NOAA and DoD. Dennis also negotiated the rights for the continued support of the Rolm Mil-Spec computer systems from Lockheed Martin, as well as a controller business from Zetaco Corporation.
Dennis holds a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems Management with a minor in Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Maryland College Park and served as an Officer in the U.S. Navy Reserve following graduation. Dennis has taught Unix courses at the collegiate level and is a Certified Network Engineer with several vendor certifications from Microsoft, Cisco and VMware.
Matt Ruck is Vice President of designDATA. In his almost 25 years with the company, he has worked to continuously enhance and improve designDATA’s suite of managed technology and cyber security services.
Matt has held several roles within the company, including the management of the network engineering group and Network Operations Center (NOC). In 1999, he oversaw the actual implementation of designDATA's NOC and later headed-up the company’s original data center build out in 2006. In his current role as Vice President, Matt meets with C-level executives to promote designDATA's turnkey managed technology, data center and cyber security services as well as its IT consulting practice. He is an expert in data center initiatives, cloud computing, converged networking, VoIP telephony, contingency planning and telecommunications.
Matt holds a Bachelor of Science in Information Assurance from the University of Maryland, as well as certifications in Microsoft's MCSE and VMware's VCP4. He previously served as part of the technology council for the American Society for Association Executives in Washington, DC.
Chief Technical Officer
Russ Coxe brings more than 35 years of IT and engineering experience to his role as Chief Technical Officer of designDATA.
Russ began his career as an electrical engineer supporting defense initiatives with the U.S. Navy. His deep interest in computerized data acquisition and processing systems is what eventually led to a career in the field of information technology. Russ has extensive knowledge and expertise in data center design and construction, enterprise computing systems, storage arrays, backup solutions and computer networking.
Russ holds numerous certifications from Microsoft, VmWare, Veeam, Sophos and CompTIA and is Penn State graduate.
Director of Technical Services
Jonathan Roy is the Director of Technical Services at designDATA. Since coming on board in 2004, Jonathan has held positions in nearly every department of the company. He has been a technical writer, project manager, deputy director in the Client Technology Management (CTM) department and field engineer/systems administrator working with customer networks. Each of these roles helped Jonathan gain the vast knowledge and hands-on experience necessary for success in his current role.
As Director of Technical Services since 2015, Jonathan is responsible for product selection and development, processes and procedures, implementing new company offerings and standardizing existing ones. He also implements strategies that help to continuously advance the capabilities of the Technical Services department.
Jonathan is a Microsoft Certified Professional and has served on a technology council for the American Society for Association Executives in Washington, D.C. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering from the University of Maryland.
Director of Client Technology Management
Michael (Mike) Hunter is the Director of Client Technology Management (CTM) at designDATA. He leads a team of dedicated technologists who provide strategic guidance, consulting and account leadership to the company’s clientele, acting as their voice across multiple internal engineering teams.
Mike brings a wealth of experience to this role. Prior to joining designDATA in 2018, he served as CIO for a rapidly growing company, implementing high-level strategies that helped it double in size. Mike played an integral part in adding a new analytics service line, providing IT and project leadership consulting to clients in New York and Texas and leading teams in providing digital solutions to federal clients such as the National Cancer Institute, Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, Department of Veterans Affairs and Military Health System.
Mike has designed and led numerous corporate training programs on project management and enjoys working with clients to build lasting solutions. He holds a Master of Science in the Management of Information Technology from the University of Virginia.
Director of Customer Service Delivery
Ted Dennis joined designDATA in 2018 as Director of Customer Service Delivery. He oversees the service desk and field engineering support teams and helps coach, teach and grow designDATA’s service managers through his tactical and strategic leadership. Ted works to develop service standards and performance metrics for customer support and builds strategies that improve service quality and efficiency.
Prior to joining the designDATA, Ted spent 15 years at The CBORD Group. He began as a General Manager for the company’s Asia-Pacific operation and moved into the position of Director of Technical Support and Customer Experience—a role which further shaped his customer experience management skills. Before his career at The CBORD Group, he held information systems positions at Hard Rock Café International and Walt Disney World.
Ted holds a Bachelor of Science from Cornell University.
Training & Development Manager
Scott Richards joined designDATA in July 2017 as the Training and Development Manager. In this role, he plans and executes weekly webinars for clients and delivers onsite training as needed. Scott focuses on providing “communication excellence” and works hard to incorporate this into the training programs he develops for both designDATA clients and employees.
Prior to joining the company, Scott enjoyed a long and successful career with IBM. He began as an assembler programmer and product tester and eventually took on different roles such as customer support representative and presales software engineer. In 2002, Scott became a technical sales manager and was responsible for supervising a team of 16 employees. He also took on a secondary position as a training manager and continued to work in both roles throughout the remainder of his IBM career.
Scott is a Certified Microsoft Office Specialist trained in Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and Word and is a member of the Association for Talent Development (ATD). He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science from Brown University.
Kristyanna Terney is Office Manager at designDATA. She has been with the company for nearly eight years and held several different positions which have prepared her for her current role. Kristyanna is responsible for managing all functions of the human resources department and overseeing the company’s day-to-day operations. She is highly-trusted by the executive committee and handles and maintains confidential company information such as inventory, financials and payroll.
Kristyanna has a track record of continuous growth at designDATA. She started as a service desk employee, quickly moving into a role in dispatch. This position led her to earn a supervisory role where she managed various teams and handled numerous billing functions. Kristyanna eventually transitioned over to another side of the company where she worked closely with a set of network engineers. This landed her a role as a trainer for four years, helping to onboard more than 100 employees and providing them with expert training services. Kristyanna feels her biggest accomplishment is helping team members grow and watching them be successful within the company. Prior to joining designDATA, Kristyanna worked as a Manager of GeekSquad at Best Buy and gained valuable experience as part of her college IT helpdesk team.
Kristyanna is a Certified Microsoft Office Specialist and a Barracuda Certified Engineer. She is also beginning the process of obtaining her SHRM certification in late 2018. Kristyanna holds a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology from Clarion University of Pennsylvania.
