System Configuration & DesignUnfortunately, many system implementations fail due to improperly conducted and poorly documented design. The end results are too often cost overruns, scope creep, and delayed project completion. designDATA consultants have guided scores of non-profits through the process of system design. Our unique understanding of non-profts combined with our broad knowledge of IT and project management add a dimension of professionalism to your project that guarantees success. The configuration and design phase of a system implementation project involves a series of function-based meetings in which the selected vendor provides a detailed walk-through of the system and describes how it will fit the client's requirements. It is at this point that potential modifications are identified. Based on client priorities and mutual agreement on modifications, the vendor will revise the original quote and provide fixed fees for both the modifications and report development. The outcome of this phase of the project is a detailed design document that will serve as the specifications blueprint for the system. In some cases, the vendor will also provide a working prototype for some or all of the required functionality. The inherent danger encountered during this phase of the project is that the design document may lack the clarity and detail necessary to eliminate the possibility of misunderstanding or disagreement on specifications during the actual implementation. designDATA consultants are professional project managers trained to work within a standard framework for design, thus minimizing the client's risk and assisting the vendor in the documentation process. |
